Bipolar disorder remains misunderstood and stigmatized, affecting up to 2.5% of French people. Manon Schabaillie, founder of HopeStage, explains four key points: People with bipolar disorder experience long, intense phases, not just unpredictable mood swings. While phases can involve detachment from reality, harm is primarily directed inward. During "high" phases, impulsivity and energy increase, impacting judgment. Bipolar depressions are dangerous, with frequent suicide attempts. Bipolar disorder often presents with other comorbidities like addiction, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial. While not curable, management is possible through understanding one's own brain and actively participating in treatment.
